Eldoret man found with videos,images and articles on terrorism locked up

Following the deadly Dusit terror attack that claims 21 lives, a total of 14 people were arrested in connection with the attack – three were released on Friday for lack of evidence.

A court in Eldoret on Friday sentenced a man to 15 years in jail after he was found guilty of being an al Shabaab member.

Chief magistrate Charles Obulutsa said Ramadhan Adam Athman was found in possession of a mobile

phone with videos, images and articles on terrorism.

He was also found guilty of being in possession of bhang.

“The prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt that you were a member of the outlawed terror group and hereby sentences you to serve 15 years in jail,” Obulutsa said.

Athman had denied the charges.He faced three counts, including being a member of al Shabaab.

The man was arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit in the outskirts of Eldoret. The sentencing comes as a suspect linked to the Westgate terror attack – Adan Dhenq – was freed on January 14.

A day later, al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the Dusitd2 attack carried out on 14 Riverside Drive, Nairobi.

The attack claimed 21 lives.
