How going mad made me a multi-millionaire

Ever heard of the saying blessing in disguise? Well I don’t really understand the meaning of this saying but could it be applied to a situation where madness made someone a multimillionaire?

Mental conditions are the worst form of disability especially in Africa. They’re frowned upon. In fact senile people are always related to witchcraft or curses.

14 years ago, a Form 4 Candidate at St. Mary’s High School, went for an operation at Nairobi Hospital.  He hoped the hospital would help restore a nasal fracture he had sustained during a basketball game.

Unfortunately for him, things turned nasty during anesthesia. He develop brain damage due to the doctor’s negligence.  According to details, he suffered from a condition called hypoxic brain damage. In other words he went mad.

Fortunately, his parents went to court and sued the hospital and a certain Dr. Praxedes Okutuyi who was the anesthetist.

The man unidentified man was awarded sh. 44.5 million on Wednesday by the High Court. In his ruling, High Court judge George Odunga on Wednesday also awarded his parents Sh1 million.

He sustained hypoxic brain damage due to the negligence of the doctor who administered anaesthesia on him. The anaesthetist Dr Praxedes Mandu Okutuyi and Nairobi Hospital were directed to pay the money.
