Turkish billionaire behind bars for defiling minors in Kilifi

A Turkish Billionaire was on, Thursday night, arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives after he was accused of defiling three minors.

Osman Elsek was, yesterday, subsequently charged with eight counts of child abuse and two counts of an indecent act with children.

Elsek was  nabbed by DCU officers who were working alongside other security forces including the General Service Unit (GSU) and Interpol.

He was accused of defiling the three children, two aged 15 and another, 17, in his palatial home in Kikambala, Kilifi County between February and October 2018.

Presenting the case before Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo, the prosecution argued that owing to the fact that Olsek was a foreigner, he, therefore, was a flight risk and would not appear in subsequent proceedings hence need to be remanded.

“The accused is a man of influence…if released, he will interfere with investigations,” read a sworn affidavit by Sergeant Emmanuel Kiptoo.

Through his lawyer Cliff Ombeta, the tycoon objected to the denial of bond plea arguing that it was his constitutional right.

“The police should have completed their investigations before bringing my client to court; this issue of denying him bail is violating his constitutional right,” stated Ombeta.

Ombeta further argued that his client had invested more than Kshs2 billion in the country and that he had no reason to flee

Appearing at Mombasa’s Shanzu Law Courts, ones he helped construct, Olsek pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The magistrate released the tycoon on a Kshs5 million bond or Kshs 700,000 cash bail while ordering the children officers to produce a report by February 22.
