The Supreme Court’s decision to ban Muslim students from wearing Hijabs continues to elicit different reactions from Kenyans across different social media platforms.
On Thursday, the highest court on land, overturned a Court of Appeal ruling allowing Muslim students to wear hijabs in school. They said the ruling by the Appellate court was against the school uniform policy.
The decision which was overturned was in relation to a school in Isiolo called St Paul’s Kiwanjani secondary which is sponsored by the Methodist church.
The judges ruled that every school has a right to determine its rules. This landmark decision has elicited different reactions.
What does it matter what a student wears?
I don’t get the connection between education and uniform.. Methodist church with all due respect is focusing on irrelevant issues— Fredrick Waweru (@FredrickWawerum) January 24, 2019
So Methodist Church – what did you stand to loose if Muslim girls puts on their hijab to school? And Supreme Court – what kind of foolish judgement is this?
Just this week a court allowed rastafarian girl back to school and now a Muslim girl cannot wear her hijab!#EducationDay— Charles Mwabili (@CMwabili) January 24, 2019
What reason could the Methodist Church possibly have, to deny someone the right to their beliefs and more so in regards to wearing a hijab? https://t.co/PoRHB3Tp92
