Reading have confirmed their fourth loan signing of the January transfer window.

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez joins the club on loan for the rest of the 2018/19 Championship season.

The Argentine completed his medical on Wednesday morning and could make his debut in next Tuesday night’s clash at Bolton Wanderers.

Manager José Gomes said: “I am delighted we have been able to attract a goalkeeper of Emi’s undoubted ability to Reading.

“He will provide excellent competition for the goalkeeper’s position and adds quality to our group.

“I look forward to working with him on the training ground for the first time later today [Wednesday].”

Martínez, who is third choice at the Gunners behind Petr Cech and Bernd Leno, takes shirt number 26 at Reading.

The shotstopper made his Arsenal debut in 2012, but he has mainly been a back-up keeper in north London.

He has had loans with Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, Wolves and Getafe while with the Gunners.

Reading chief executive Nigel Howe said: “Emiliano is another talented player who has agreed to spend time away from one of the top teams in the Premier League in search of valuable first team football.

“He has Championship experience and he is up for the fight. I look forward to him challenging for the goalkeeper’s jersey as a Royal.”
