It is now seven days since the bloody terror attack at 14 Riverside that left at least 21 people dead and many more injured. As Kenyans continue to mourn their loved ones, we know distantly that this is not the first attack on Kenyan soil, and even though we hope it will be the last one, we still live in fear that the terrorists will strike again.
But could this attack have been avoided. Should we even be here now, mourning as the ugly hand of terror reigns? Could this attack have been avoided if Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, had lived to his promise and named the Al Shabaab financiers?
In 2015, in the aftermath of the infamous attack at Garissa University, Duale held a press conference in which he said he has a list of all terror financiers. He promised to release the names within 30 days.
However, it is almost three years since that fateful declaration, but Duale remains silent. On the sideshows, the terror group continue to kill Kenyans with impunity.
The mastermind of the Dusit attack, Ali Salim Gichunge and his wife Violet Omwoyo lived in a 40K apartment at the upmarket Mucathe Estate in Kiambu. The couple lived a lavish lifestyle befit only for a Minister.
This is a clear indication that the terrorists have a lot of money, enough money to sway a jobless Kenyan youth to descent on his countrymen with an AK 47. So who is financing them? Could this attack have been avoided if Aden Duale had named these financiers in 2015?
