Those who were in government school are very familiar with the words sharing. For survival this was the method for almost everything including the government provided school textbooks that somehow couldn’t serve the high number of students vs the ratio of books supplied.

This issue became a serious further when Matiang’i took note when he was the Education Cabinet Secretary. He revealed he was shocked that five students shared one book yet the government provided enough books.

Well CS Amina Mohamed took over the miistry with an intention to clear the mess and finally her ministry has announced that they have achieved the 1:1 ratio hence our pupils will nolonger share books in class.

The government has successfuly distributed 60 million textbooks to public schools and achieved the desired 1:1 textbook to learner ratio for effective teaching and learning.

Education PS Belio Kipsang said the government, in conjunction with USAid, Global Partnership in Education (GPE) and the World Bank, had cumulatively distributed the textbooks to improve literacy and numeracy in Early Years of Education (EYE) besides the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQIP).

He made the remarks when he received a 14-member delegation from Zambia, which is on a four-day benchmarking tour on Kenya’s public education system at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).

This is a gret stride as the ministry has been under a lot of hits over fulfilment of the projects they have been rolling out.
