Arsenal Identify Summer Target After Exit Confirmed

Arsenal are set for a quiet end to the January transfer window with just the loan signing of Denis Suarez likely to be on the cards.

But they are hard at work making plans for the end of the season as they decide how to further overhaul the squad Unai Emery inherited.

One of the changes will be enforced, however, with No 2 goalkeeper Cech due to leave the Emirates as he calls time on his professional career.

Arsenal are now said to be eyeing up a potential replacement in the form of Sampdoria loanee Audero.

Gianluca Di Marzio, who works for Sky Sport Italia, claims Arsenal are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old goalkeeper’s performances.

And they are apparently interested in getting him on board once his stint at Stadio Luigi Ferraris ends.

Audero has made made 21 appearances in all competitions under Marco Giampaolo this season.

Sampdoria, though, could throw a spanner in the works from an Arsenal perspective.

The Serie A outfit have the option to sign Audero from Juventus on a permanent basis in the summer.

And that means they could gazump Arsenal, forcing Gunners chiefs to go back to the drawing board.

Cech, meanwhile, hinted he is looking forward to a break from the world of football when he retires.

But Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes his old side must look to retain his services in a non-playing role.

“Chelsea are likely to offer Petr Cech a role at the club when he calls time on his playing career this summer – but Arsenal should be looking to keep him, too,” Keown said.

“Any aspiring goalkeeper would jump at the chance to learn from Cech. Arsenal should match whatever Chelsea offer him.”

Cech could make his 12th start of the season in all competitions when Arsenal face Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday night.

The 36-year-old has won the competition five times to date, most recently with Arsenal in 2017.
