Which position should Rashford play?

Gareth Southgate has tipped Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford to improve even better and further shared his opinion on his best pitch position.

Rashford did score against Spain in both home and away matches in the UEFA Nations League matches and has replicated the same form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer where he has scored five goals in six appearances. Southgate praised the 21-year old star for his desire of wanting to do better and better and the England coach tips him to mature and become even stronger.

“Given that he’s only 21, he will definitely continue to improve. When you have a mindset like he has and a desire to be as good as he wants to be, then that will happen. He’s a tremendous talent, we’ve known that for a long time and with us, he’s scored three goals in the period after the World Cup. And he’s showing great signs with his club of maturing and getting stronger and playing with the belief – and that is so important for young players.” Southgate told Sky Sports.

Discussing Rashford’s best position on the pitch, the Three Lions boss said the forward can play both as a lone striker or on either side of front three but was quick to point out that the most important thing is the fluidity and development in the game.

“In the modern game, I think flexibility, particularly in those attacking positions [is so important]. When I think of United from years ago with [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Wayne] Rooney, [Carlos] Tevez, all three of them would pop up in different areas of the pitch. That fluidity is difficult to mark, so I don’t think it’s important what his best position is but I think it’s important he is playing, and playing well, and developing and showing that confidence,” Southgate explained.

Rashford has been dominantly used by Solskjaer at the expense of Romelu Lukaku and has not disappointed in those games.
