Barcelona to sign ex-Portsmouth striker

Sassuolo forward Kevin-Prince Boateng is set to sign for Barcelona on a six-month loan deal, according to several sources.

Sky Sports claim Barcelona will pay around £1.75million to “borrow the 31-year-old for the rest of the season with an option to buy for £7m in the summer”.

Goal also report the deal to be almost over the line and claim “he said his goodbyes to his team-mates on Monday and is now set to fly to Catalunya before completing his medical with the Liga champions”.

Mundo Deportivo had previously reported that Barcelona were working to sign a centre-forward to replace Munir El Haddadi.

The paper claimed the Blaugrana were looking for a very specific profile of striker – a veteran who will be content to be back-up for Luis Suarez and, ideally, with La Liga experience.

Fernando Llorente, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Olivier Giroud has all been mentioned, but former Spurs forward Boateng is the man wanted by Ernesto Valverde.

Boateng has played in La Liga before with Las Palmas and Barcelona will be the 10th club of his career having already played for the likes of Milan, Hertha Berlin, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund.

He has scored five goals in 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season having recovered from a pelvis injury last month.
