Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made it seven wins on the spin as Manchester United’s interim boss against Brighton on Saturday.

Goals from Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford ensured the Red Devils kept up the heat on the top four with a sixth consecutive Premier League win.

Solskjaer has injected a new lease of life at Old Trafford since replacing Jose Mourinho at the helm last month.

He has put himself in pole position to land the job on a permanent basis but still faces competition from Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino.

United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed the one big change his former teammate has made.

“It’s not just the results, it’s the manner in which he’s done it. He’s changed the mentality and psyche of the players,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“He wants players to play to their strengths. Pogba, the talisman, was brought in to be that man. It wasn’t working out consistently for him but now he’s scoring goals.

“Rashford, [playing] as a number nine. People are saying ‘Rashfoprd or Kane’ – that was never the conversation before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in.”

The majority of Solskjaer’s wins have come against sides in the bottom half of the table but Ferdinand rejected the notion that the Norwegian has had it easy.

He added: “Mourinho didn’t win those type of games – teams don’t automatically roll over because of the badge on the shirt. You’ve got to go and do it.

“There’s been three managers that have gone in since Sir Alex Ferguson retired – all failed really.”
