Manchester United eye a £45m defender

Manchester United will reportedly rival Real Madrid for the £45million signing of Porto defender Eder Militao.

The 21-year-old has been watched by across Europe – including United’s domestic rivals Chelsea and Liverpool.

Real reportedly have a verbal agreement to sign Militao, but United are confident they can scupper that deal, according to the Daily Mail.

Miltao only joined Porto from Sao Paulo for £3m last summer and won’t be sold this month.

But United will have to move quickly at the end of the summer as the defender’s release clause increases from £45m to £70m in July.

Meanwhile, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped praise on Ander Herrera after United’s win over Brighton.

The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the season, but Solskjaer offered him hope of a new deal.

He said: “He’s a midfielder, it’s a bit different to Paul, to Nemanja with their physical attributes.

“But he runs and he runs, he wins the ball, plays it simple, he makes some good runs into the box as well.

“Even though I let Paul do more that job and Ashley from the right-hand side, but I’ll never stop him from making those runs into the box.

“And hopefully he will continue like this. I’ve always enjoyed watching Ander from when we signed him from Athletic Bilbao. I thought he did really well against us when he played for them as well so he caught my eye then.”
