“scratch my back I scratch yours” Akothee speaks on Kenyan Music

The debate of playing Kenyan music has been gaining momentum for almost a month now. Different artists have come out boldly to raise their voice on this debate.

Akothee who  has been in the industry have come out to give his opinion on the debate.

In the 10 over 10 Citizen TV entertainment show on Friday night hosted by Willis Raburu ,Akothee joined other by DJ Pierra Makena and Kerry held a lengthy discussion on women in music in Kenya.

On the playing of Kenyan Music, Akothee stated very clearly that is only possible if musicians could support each other in the upward calibration in the growing Kenyan music industry;

“Nothing scares me about being a woman…If I can carry a child for 9 months then I can walk on men People do not hate me…they hate the success! The music industry is all about ‘scratch my back I scratch yours’ and it depends on the back you settle on.”

Akothee also explained how a strong personality is a key to survival in the Kenyan Music industry;

“you cannot survive in music in Kenya if you are not a strong personality…not everyone plays my music in Kenya- I have so many haters in the music industry too Kenyan artistes are suffering and I feel for them…”
