Revealed!Why Jubilee party will not participate in Embakasi South and Ugenya by-elections

Days after the Supreme Court nullified the election of MPs Christopher Karan and Julius Mawathe,Jubilee party has issued a statement on not fielding candidates for the upcoming by elections in Ugenya and Embakasi South.

In the statement, Jubilee said that they would not field candidates after consultations with their party leaders and they want to encourage initiatives that will reduce political tension in the country

“After wide consultations, the Jubilee Party leadership has decided that the Party shall not be fielding candidates for the forthcoming Parliamentary By- elections in Ugenya and Embakasi South Constituencies. This is in the spirit of furthering the steps of constructive engagements with the other main parties engaged in the contest and with an eye on the bigger picture.”

“So soon after a very divisive electoral period just a year ago, the Party is acting in the best interest of various initiatives that will reduce political tension in the country,” read part of a statement signed by Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju.

Jubilee Issues statement on fielding candidates for Embakasi South and Ugenya by-elections

The two parliamentary seats fell vacant after the Supreme Court on December 21, 2018, nullified the Christopher Karan as MP for Ugenya and Julius Mawathe as MP for Embakasi South on grounds that they were not validly elected.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced February 4 and 5, as dates when parties will conduct their nomination exercises for the by elections and appointed its returning and deputy returning officers for the by- elections, and the by-elections set for April 5, 2019.
