Solskjaer responds to controversial Mourinho interview

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has offered his thoughts on Jose Mourinho‘s recent revealing interview.

Mourinho spoke in-depth publicly for the first time since his Manchester United sacking in a wide-ranging discussion with beIN SPORTS.

The Portuguese opened up on numerous topics, including his own future, the need for clubs to implement a better structure, and the change in relationships between a manager and his players.

Mourinho insisted that he is one of few managers who have proven that they “belong at the top level”, and Solskjaer was more than happy to back him to return sooner rather than later.

“Yeah, why shouldn’t he?” he said.

“He’s a fantastic manager and with the results he’s had I don’t think he’ll be struggling for work.”

Mourinho also spoke of the rise in ‘player power’.

He noted that Sir Alex Ferguson’s suggestion that “the day when a player becomes more important than the club, he must be sold,” does not apply in the modern game, as “there is no longer this balance”.

Solskjaer was slightly less eager to discuss that point.

“I can’t really comment on everything he says,” he replied.

“I’m enjoying working with these boys and that’s all I can say.”
