Ruthless Tana River Governor Kicks out Somali Refugees, Says they’re a Major Security Threat

We expected some tough decisions to be made in the aftermath of the brutal Terror attack at Riverside on Tuesday afternoon. The attack which has already been claimed by Somali Terror Group, Al Shabab left some 22 people dead and many more injured.

But as we continue mourning the death and coming to terms with our loss, Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana has made the first major decision, telling the world that Kenyans will not forget easily.

The ruthless governor has asked all Somali refugees in Kenya to return home. Godhana said Somali is now peaceful and refugees should go and build their country.

Speaking on Friday in Hola during the handing over of cheques for students’ bursaries, the governor said the continuous stay of refugees in the country was a major security threat.

Godhana said Tana River has also been affected by the presence of refugees, who are a security risk. He said Somalia had a governance system like Kenya and citizens are free to vie for elective positions.

“The refugees cannot benefit from any elective positions in Kenya if they remain in the country, they should go and vie for the presidency, governor and other elective posts,’’ he said.

There has been a lot of conversation around the topic of whether Somalis are terrorists. In Tuesday’s attack, two Muslims of Somali origin were killed by the terrorists. But Godhana’s sentiments will raise more questions than answers.
