Kenya Film Classification Board has today issued a warning to unlicensed film makers.
The Board has also issued an ultimatum of of 14 days to film makers whose licences have expired for them to renew them.
This warning is in regard to Ezekiel Mutua’s statement concerning the compliance to the filming requirements in line with the laws of Kenya.
Mutua said that, their attention was drawn to numerous incidents of persons engaging in filmmaking activities in the country without obtaining filming licenses from the Board as required by law.
The Board also gave a warning to rogues who take shortcuts and get involved in forgery of licences.
“In one incident which has been reported to the police, a forged filming license was issued to a foreign crew that had sought for the permit through one of the major foreign missions in Kenya”reads from Mutua’s statement
The Board also insisted that any film making activity for sale, public exhibition or hire needs to be licensed by KFCB in accordance to the law.
To contain the emerging cases, the board is in liaison with security agents and has shared the data on persons licensed to carry out filming activities in the country.
Mutua also added that illegal filming must not be allowed since it poses as a threat the nation.
In his statement, Mutua also issues guidelines that regulate content, filming and broadcasting in accordance to the law.
