Gor Coach Hassan Oktay slams his Predecessor Dylan Kerr for not Developing Players

Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay has slammed his immediate predecessor and former fan favorite Dylan Kerr for not developing players during his tenure at the club.

Oktay was specifically not happy with the team’s lack of pre-season last year. He was also says that Kerr, now at South African side Leopards did not develop players during his time at the club.

“Pre-season is very important for players and it helps them a lot. But one thing for sure, last year’s type of training didn’t help the players at all.” “The Brazilian did a great job here, but last year the players didn’t develop. It is not a good thing you know,’’ said Oktay.

Kerr was at Gor Mahia for two years and won back to back KPL titles. He also won the famous Sportpesa Cup in Nakuru after the team beat Tanzanian giants Simba SC 2-0 in Nakuru.

Kerr, was a fan favorite and had a Gor Mahia logo tattooed on his left ankle. He was the first Gor Mahia coach to lead the team to the CAF Confederations Cup Group stages and came close to qualifying for the knockout stages.

However trouble started in the latter parts of the season. Gor lost influential striker Meddie Kagere to Simba FC. They also lost Fullback Godfrey Walusimbi in mid season and thereby derailing the coach’s plans.

A fixture pile up in the later part of the season plus off field issue meant did not help either. Gor played 20 matches in 60 days between July and August last year and lost their last 2 games in the CAF CC group stage to be bundled out.

Kerr left in huff for South Africa. It was later revealed that the club was not paying his rent and electricity bills. The coach had been showering in a swimming pool.
