Kisii County nominated members in fresh woes with County Assembly, heads to court

Members of county Assembly (MCAs) have not less than once hit the headlines not for good reasons, but controversies. Wrangles hve been witnessed in various County assemblies, with Kisumu and Homa Bay hitting the headlines most. Did the MCAs end these all drama in their assemblies? Well, 15 nominated Members of the Kisii County Assembly have sued the House, the Attorney General and the Speaker over what they term as discrimination and violation of the Constitution.

In a suit filed at Kisumu High Court, the MCAs accuse the respondents of amendments in the Kisii County Assembly standing orders which they claim limit their voting rights.

They further termed it as unconstitutional and unlawful.

The MCAs have also accused the respondents of failing to comply with the Commission of Revenue Allocation circular that directed they be allocated offices and three non-partisan staff.

The MCAs who appeared before Justice F.A. Ochieng named the Attorney General as an interested party in the case.

The County Assembly Service Board, the House and the Speaker are named as first, second and third respondents respectively.
