The debate has been going on for atleast a week after the Principal for Olympic High School in Kibera sent a rastafarian girl home for putting dreadlocks.

Well, seems the education CS has been caught by the ongoing debated and has ordered for the school to allow the form one girl to go back to school.

Education CS Amina Mohamed has said a Rastafarian girl should be allowed to return to school without having to cut her dreadlocks.

While speaking in an interview, CS Mohammed said that the girl had a right to education and “should be allowed back to school”.

She further added saying that, “It is not right to interpret to others how they are supposed to live.”

She further compared the situation with the Muslim community who have been allowed to wear headscarves, or hijabs, to school,  a law that was passed by the courts saying the Constitution provided for the right to education as well as freedom of religion and cultural practice.

The court instructed then Education CS Fred Matiang’i to ensure that school uniform rules do not discriminate against students based on their religion.
