Details of Raila’s meeting with the out going US ambassador

Outgoing US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has promised to support the fight against corruption even as he leaves the country.

ODM leader Raila Odinga and his wife Ida on Thursday hosted a farewell breakfast for the envoy in Karen. ODM Minority Whip Junet Mohammed was also present.

Godec said he would also support the Building Bridges Initiative for a better Kenya.

He had called on Kenyans to support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the war against corruption. Godec said the war on corruption requires collective responsibility to succeed.

The outgoing ambassador is leaving the country at the end of the month after six years in Nairobi.

Godec has served both in former US President Barack Obama’s regime and the current government led by Donald Trump.

He was nominated by Obama on September 19, 2012, and was sworn in by the then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on January 16, 2013.

Godec is the longest-serving US envoy, not just to Kenya but also in the world, having stayed for slightly over six years.

Most US ambassadors serve for three years.

Godec will be replaced by Kyle McCarter of downstate Lebanon in March 2018 to replace Godec.

McCarter and his wife, Victoria, have lived in Kenya doing charity work with Each One Feed One International, which has an office in Mukothima, in Tharaka Nithi county.

According to the White House, McCarter has also served as a field auditor, missionary, and international director of the charity group based in Lebanon, Illinois.
