94 reports of missing people after terror attack, red cross confirms issue

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday morning declared the terrorist attack at 14 Riverside Drive over, with all the terrorists having been killed.

About 700 people were rescued from the compound since the start of the attack on Tuesday through the early hours of Wednesday morning, the President said.

Though an official statement , government agencies confirmed reports that twenty-one people were killed in the attack after terrorists stormed the office park on Tuesday.

The 20-hour siege ended after Kenyan forces, a multi-agency team led by the General Service Unit, killed all the attackers on Wednesday.

Families and friends of those who died in the Dusit hotel complex attack gathered on Thursday at Chiromo Mortuary to identify bodies of their loved ones.

A multi-agency team comprising Kenya Red Cross, St John’s Ambulance and National Disaster Management Unit are also providing counselling services to relatives.

Earlier reports from officials at the redcross had said they received 94 reports of missing people.

However a statement by Kenya Red Cross issued on Wednesday evening showed that 19 people were still not accounted for, hours after the security operation had ended with the killing of all the attackers.

By Thursday noon the Kenya Red Cross said all people reported missing in the DusitD2 complex attack have been accounted for.
