Next phase of Dusit attack criminal process investigations

Detectives commenced investigations at the Dusit complex which was attacked by terrorists on Tuesday, Interior CS Fred Matiangi  revealed.

Matiang’i said the first phase was to neutralize the terrorists and have now embarked on the second phase targeting to start a criminal process.

“I came here to thank men and women in uniform for the great work. The operation was executed well. Phase one is over and we now enter phase two and Dusit remains a crime scene. The public will not be allowed in until detectives have done their part,” Matiangi said.

“We are still compiling the details and we will tell the total number of those killed. 18 people were injured and over 700 people evacuated,” Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary-General Abbas Gullet told journalists.

Today evening Boinnet explained that the bomb squad was still detonating grenades left at the scene by the slain terrorists.

The blasts were heard hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the attackers had been neutralized, assuring Kenyans of their security.

“I assure fellow Kenyans and our visitors that you are safe in Kenya. Inform the police and any authority of any suspicious individuals. We can never take anything for granted, we shall continue the never-ending work of strengthening our systems,” he stated.

Kenyatta further stated that 14 people had been confirmed dead while 700 had been rescued. He  expressed his remorse for the lives lost during the incident and commended all agencies which quickly responded.

“We will seek out every person involved in the funding, planning and execution of this heinous act,” the
president added during his address.
