How thugs made away with unknown cash in Bungoma, killed one

A boda boda rider was on Tuesday shot dead by armed thugs in a robbery at a Bungoma town hardware shop.

The three thugs who were on a motorcycle stormed the hardware and made away with an unknown amount of cash.

The thugs also shot and injured three other riders during their escape.

Two of the shot riders had pursued the gang which escaped through Chemche road on the outskirts of Bungoma town.

Another shot rider Titus Khamala was bathing at a river on the escape route used by the thugs.

“I was in the river bathing when I saw the three thugs coming on a motorcycle at high-speed. I was with my brother and I didn’t know what was happening. Then i felt a sharp pain on my leg before I started bleeding,” he said.

Dan Daraja, a medic at the Bungoma Referral Hospital confirmed they received four patients with gunshot wounds at around 3 pm on Tuesday.

He said one patient was in critical condition and later succumbed during treatment.

Bungoma South OCPD Patrick Nyangaresi said police have launched a manhunt for the gang.

He asked members of the public to volunteer information to the police that could lead to the arrest of the gang.

He said that police suspect the gang are heavily armed and are behind the recent spate of insecurity in the town.

Residents led by Simiyu Wanyama have asked the police to intensify day and night patrols to wipe out criminals terrorising residents.
