NCIC confirms arrest of Dennis Kiptoo over an inciteful tweet

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has today confirmed the arrest of Mr Dennis Kiptoo Mutai who has been on the run since 9th January 2019 after posting inciteful statements on social media platforms.

Mr Kiptoo was arrested this afternoon in Kericho town and is currentlÿ recording a statement at the DCI office in Kericho.

The NCIC in a statement  informed that Kiptoo will be arraigned in court as soon as possible to answer charges of ethnic contempt contravening provisions of the National Cohesion and Integration Act 2008.

The Tweet which was sent by Dennis Kiptoo was in the lines of politics and was called out by a number of Kenyans who were not impressed by the utterance.

Kenyans had earlier called for the arrest of Dennis as they cautioned that his words should not be taken lightly since he spoke of violence and eviction.

NCIC also condemned the increasing level of ethnic and political polarization; intolerance and hooliganism during this phase of heightened 2022 succession politics.

They also noted with concern that the prevailing political situation in the country is at most irresponsible, unfortunate and untenable.

NCIC says that if the current situation is allowed to take root, the current political dynamics will roll back the gains that the country has made towards building a cohesive, united and integrated peaceful nation.

NCIC’s  whose mandate is to facilitate equality of opportunity, good relations, harmony and peaceful co-existence in Kenya also issued a warning to Kenyans over inciteful utterances.

The National Police Service had earlier addressed the matter stating that they were aware of the tweet that was threatening to ignite inter-ethnic clashes akin what occurred in 2007/2008

They also assured Kenyans that  they took  these threats as a serious matter  and the persons involved would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
