Gonzalo Higuain has formally asked to leave Milan in an attempt to push through a move to Chelsea, according to reports.

Blues striker Michy Batshuayi is set to join Monaco on loan, while Alvaro Morata’s future at Stamford Bridge remains unclear.

Juventus hitman Higuain, who played under Stamford Bridge boss Maurizio Sarri at Napoli during the 2015/16 campaign, wants to cancel his season-long loan at Milan to link up with the Italian coach again.

The Daily Mail claim Milan want a replacement before allowing the Argentina international to depart for west London this month, however.

Juventus expect Chelsea to take over the terms of the 31-year-old’s deal which would require them to pay a £16million loan fee with an obligation to buy for £32million at the end of the season.

The Serie A champions take on Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia this week, and Higuain has travelled with the Rossoneri for the fixture.

Talks over his future are planned to take place around Wednesday’s match.
