Governors of Machakos, Kitui and Makueni on Sunday announced the formation of the People’s Empowerment Movement.
According to the three governors, the People’s Empowerment Movement’s main aim would be to fight poverty and generate wealth in the region by galvanizing their shared resources.
The alliance would also be a vehicle to provide cohesion in Ukambani and the entire nation in general.
Citing the poor leadership experienced in the region in the past years, the leaders vowed to stick together to change the narrative of leadership in the area.
“Our people have suffered for a long time due to poor leadership, we have to provide leadership that changes the lives of our mothers, youth and men.” Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu proclaimed.
Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, reflecting Ngilu’s sentiments added that the Ukambani Community needed to be mobilized for national issues such as the forthcoming census, agenda 4 programs and even any referendum.
The leaders vowed not to give in to those insulting them but would instead stick to the development agenda they had drawn for the citizens of Ukambani.
“In 10 or 20 years time we do not want to be blamed for being sycophants and doing nothing,” Mutua added.
The leaders announced that they would unveil the agenda of the new alliance on February, promising that the movement would transform the lives of Ukambani residents in a way they have never experienced before.
This comes days after the three governors publicly called out Ukambani kingpin Kalonzo Musyoka over what they termed as stalling development projects in the area.
