PHOTOS: KICD issues alert on substandard text books

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development has urged  teachers and parents that they should use approved  textbooks in schools for the new curriculum.

On their twitter page KICD shared a sample of books that contain misleading content. This follows concerns that some books circulating in the market are not approved.

Are Kenyans rushing to get easy money at the expense of students education? Well..

In a statement by Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development – KICD director, Dr Julius Jwan said Textbooks must be approved to ensure learners are not treated to misleading content adding that they are important in curriculum delivery.

KICD confirmed that currently, PP2 CRE ENVIRONMENTAL GRADE 2 (Supplementary) textbooks are the only ones so far approved amongst the Targeter Series.

Meaning that the initial photo in this article has been mentioned among the fake or rather substandard.

Earlier this year, Education  CS Amina Mohamed directed education officers to confirm that only KICD approved  textbooks are used in schools.

These errors can  cause major problems in instances where the students  end up being misinformed and therefore creating confusion.

With the warning from KICD, parents and teachers should take up responsibility to ensure that the content provided to the students is right and in line to the curriculum.

Vigilant Kenyans should also be in the look out to report any cases of traders who are still supplying the books.
