Mourinho reacts to Real Madrid links

Jose Mourinho has broken silence over the recent speculation linking him with a sensational management return to European champions Real Madrid.

After overseeing United’s worst start to a Premier League season in 28 years, Mourinho was relieved of his duties with the English giants.

And straight after the dismissal, Mourinho claimed he would not be seeking a break from football.

This alerted a host of European club’s, with Benfica and Real said to have approached the Portuguese tactician.

While the former Chelsea manager remained mum about his next move, his recent statements suggest that a return to the club he won LaLiga with is on the cards.

“When professional returns or is invited to return to a club it is a tremendous honour,” Mourinho told Portuguese newspaper Record. “I felt it when I returned to Chelsea. When a coach or a player he comes back, it means we did something positive.

“It’s not a gamble in the dark, the clubs are trying to hire a player or a coach they know, they’ve already been there, and if they invite you it’s because they know the value of the person.”

However, he was more upfront about the reported Benfica offer when he spoke to Correio de Manha.

“I have never been into the game of feeding news stories, but I have no intention of working in Portugal,” Mourinho said.

“I don’t really want to go there but the best way to respect a great club [Benfica] and a great president is to say that I was not approached.

“It’s a tremendous honour when you return to a club where you’ve been, but I’m talking to you and I will not talk to anyone else.

“I’m not training, I love that I am no longer talked about all the time and the best way to ensure that will remain the case is for me to not talk either.

“I want to able to think and prepare for the next step.”
