As few politicians threaten the peace of the country with their recent political stands, the joy of unity is also rising in various sections of the country. This has seen yet another attempt to commemorate the shocking day that marked a great political change in Kenya.
The Elders Association of Kenya want March 9 to be declared a public holiday to commemorate the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking in Nairobi, association member Martin Kenyanjui alias Mutarara wants the handshake to go down in history as the day Kenyans were united.
“God has answered our prayers through the March 9, 2018 handshake between the President and former Prime Minister, the tension and uncertainty that existed came to an end,” stated Mr. Kenyanjui in a press release.
“We’ll even go further asking that the ninth day of March be declared a public holiday. The unity day is when all of us should invade streets with festivities and celebrate this famous historic day.”
He also asked politicians to stop premature campaigns ahead of the 2022 presidential elections.
Mr. Kenyanjui, who was also accompanied by former Member of Parliament Mohammed Galgalo, also condemned utterances made by some Jubilee politicians whom he described as messengers of doom and hatred.
