Jose Mourinho has hinted that it would be a huge honour if he were to return to Real Madrid as manager following his sacking from Manchester United.
The Portuguese has been linked with a number of high profile jobs since he was sacked by United three weeks ago with his former clubs Real Madrid and Benfica both reportedly interested in having him back.
The 55-year-old is currently back in Portugal as he takes a break from football but was stopped by Portuguese television station CMTV where he was asked about the possibility of returning to Real.
“They are things that are said and I will not feed,” Mourinho said. “When a coach or a player (in Portugal there is now an example of that) he comes back, it means something positive we did. I felt it when I returned to Chelsea.
“When a professional returns or is invited to return to a club it is a tremendous honor. It’s not a gamble in the dark, the clubs are trying to hire a player or a coach they know, they’ve already been there, and if they invite you it’s because they know the value of the person.”
Mourinho has also been tipped to return to Benfica and their president Luis Filipe Vieira has revealed they want him back.”I am his friend.
Who would not like to have Mourinho? [But] I have not talked to him” Vieira told Portuguese broadcaster SIC. “If he says yes tomorrow, he’ll be here at the drop of a hat. Money is no issue for Benfica.”
