Diego Simeone refuse to Confirm, deny their interest in Alvaro Morata

Simeone insisted he was only thinking about Atletico's upcoming match against Levante

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has refused to confirm or deny their interest in Alvaro Morata.

The want-away Chelsea striker has been earmarked as a potential replacement for Diego Costa, who is recovering from an operation on his left foot that took place at the start of December.

Morata wants to return to Spain after a difficult time in England. He has scored just five Premier League goals all season.

And Simeone kept quiet on the talk that they could offer him an escape route in this window.

‘The only thing I’m thinking about is the upcoming match against Levante,’ Simeone said. ‘I don’t speak about players that aren’t with us, only those that are.

‘I can’t confirm or deny anything because coaches wait to see what the club can do.

‘Some players want more minutes, some could be sold by the club, some could arrive. We need to wait until January 31.’

Spanish radio Cope have reported that Atletico’s chief deal maker Andrea Bertra has travelled to London for talks with Chelsea.

Morata started his career in Atletico Madrid’s youth team before being signed by Real Madrid.

Sevilla are also keen on Morata, but their sporting director Joaquin Caparros admitted on Tuesday: ‘It is true that we have an interest in this player [Morata], but it is a very, very complicated operation.

‘The player may want to come here over other options, but it is very complicated. Chelsea are a club who are very difficult to negotiate [with].
