Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has dismissed the Education minister Janet Ouko’s allegations behind her resignation claiming that it would pave way for a more competent person to fill the vacancy.

Sonko has also issued a press statement explaining the rot going on in Nairobi county as millions are lost under bursary disbursement.

He has revealed that the county has lost money amounting to over 10 million in two scandals with the first one happening between the period of 2013-2016 and the second one in 2017-2018.

In the first scandal he has exposed that a fake small company opened around River road by the names of Kobutho education center has been swindling money meant for poor bright students.

He claimed having statements from Nairobi City County showing that they have been issuing many  cheques to the fake educational center which then banks the money from the county’s cooperative account into their Equity account which is then withdrawn in cash.

The matter he says was reported to the police and after investigations conducted suspects who are some of his senior officers have been arraigned in court.

He has also confirmed that in scandal number two his officers carried out a PR stunt advertising through media that they had issued the ksh 357 million bursary cheques to the needy students while in actual sense they would later on cancel the cheques then they draw other cheques in favor of the aproxies and private companies.

Under his watch he claimed this would never happen also revealed he told Janet this is 2019 and the investigations are going on but if the trend doesn’t change then that would be her problem. He also warned her that its time the suspects who conspired with the bursary thieves would also be arrested.

He admitted accepting her resignation saying he means well for her but public money must be returned because the senators keep them on toes concerning how they spend money and so Nairobi will be different from other counties such that if money is stolen the issue is dealt with there and then.
