Callum Hudson-Odoi’s Wembley Display Could end Up Costing Maurizio Sarri

Bayern want to sign Hudson-Odoi this month.

Given the reports from Germany that Bayern Munich have agreed a fee with Chelsea for Hudson-Odoi, it was a surprise to see the teenager start the Carabao Cup semi-final clash between Tottenham and Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium.

Standard Sport has learned that such claims maybe premature, but what isn’t in doubt is Bayern have made a fourth bid.

The 18-year-old wants a chance to shine at the highest level, something he looked ready for after tearing Arsenal full back Hector Bellerin apart in pre-season.

Hudson-Odoi was offered a five-year deal by Chelsea in the summer, but made it clear that he wouldn’t sign it until seeing how much he played.

Well, this was just his eighth appearance of the campaign and feels like a late concerted effort by coach Mauricio Sarri to persuade him to stay.

But why wasn’t there such a show of faith earlier in the campaign? Sarri makes out it was because he wasn’t good enough in the defensive phase.

That maybe true, he is still learning his trade after all, but there have been plenty of opportunities for him to play in lesser matches that were ignored.

Here at Wembley, Hudson-Odoi was under intense scrutiny. The speculation surrounding him ensured that.

But he played with a confidence and swagger beyond his years. Tottenham left back Danny Rose found it hard to contain him.

The worry for Chelsea fans is that Bayern Munich stand to benefit from this prodigious talent.
