Tottenham striker Harry Kane is Premier League’s most valuable player, study claims

Tottenham talisman Harry Kane trails just Paris Saint-Germain’s star Kylian Mbappe as the most valuable player in the world, according to a study.

CIES Football Observatory ranks PSG pair Mbappe and Neymar as first and third, with Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah completing the top five.

According to an “exclusive algorithm”, Mbappe is worth €218.5million (£195.99) to Kane’s €200.3m (£179.67m). Neymar is at €197.1m (£176.8m) then there is an €11m drop off to Sterling and Salah.

Lionel Messi is seventh at €171.2m (£153.54m), just behind Paulo Dybala’s €171.9m (£154.17m). Romelu Lukaku, Philippe Coutinho and Leroy Sane round off the top 10. Cristiano Ronaldo is 19th.

There are 27 players valued over €100m, of which 16 play in the Premier League. Dele Alli, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Paul Pogba and Edne Hazard all find themselves in the top 20.

Remarkably, Borussia Dortmund youngster Jadon Sancho – formerly of Manchester City and a one-time target of Tottenham – is sitting at 22nd with a value of €112.6m (£100.99m).

Arsenal’s highest-valued player is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at 31st at €95.4m (£85.58m), while Alexandre Lacazette and Lucas Torreira are 62nd and 63rd. Granit Xhaka is 82nd.

Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is 83rd while, further up the list misfiring Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata is joint-68th.
