How The Handshake Has Brought the Kikuyu-Kalenjin duopoly to it’s Knees

Should the now growing bromance between President Kenyatta and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga be a source of concern for various political factions in the country

This association is what is imploding Jubilee today. In the 2013 Jubilee arrangement, it was certain that after Uhuru, it would be Ruto. So Raila has changed the equation. It has demolished the notion that it’s a Kikuyu or Kalenjin for President, and a Luo opposing.

If you give Ruto the presidency, the Kalenjin-Kikuyu arrangement stands, with a Luo opposing. But Raila and Uhuru are trying to create a new narrative, unsettling other people in Jubilee.

This could spell doom for Jubilee because it was founded on a Kikuyu-Kalenjin duopoly, with a Luo in opposition. If that scheme dies, it leaves others orphaned, and it becomes possible to break Jubilee. A new outfit embracing new political thinking could emerge.

It seems the new thinking is not only embraced by Odinga and Uhuru but also past presidents who don’t seem keen to meet Jubilee adherents.

President Kenyatta has time and again defended his relationship with Raila saying that it is what the Country actually needs to move in the right direction.

Even people from his native Central Kenya have complained of being neglected in terms of development but the head of state would hear none of this.

He has instead dismissed those complaining about development in Central Kenya calling them ‘washenzi’.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria had claimed that Uhuru has neglected Central Kenya when it comes to development projects.

The MP’s New Year’s Eve rant went viral, with a section of leaders saying he should go to rehab after appearing to be drunk.

Speaking during the commissioning of Mama Ngina drive in Mombasa county on Monday, Uhuru said his focus is to take development across the country.

“Nitaendelea kuzunguka kila corner ya Kenya na kazi ya maendeleo…kutoka Mombasa hadi Kisumu, Moyale hadi Namanga ..hii siasa ya kusema ya kwamba mtu ametoka mahala fulani ati maendeleo itaelekezwa mahala fulani jamani tuwahe (I will continue to traverse every corner of Kenya, bringing growth and development; from Kisumu, Moyale, up until Namanga. This politics of saying someone comes from such and such a place so development should be made in that region should stop),” he said.

The notion that the President’s place of residence should be given priority in matters development is now being changed by Uhuru who now believes in serving Kenyans from all over the country equally.

His new resolve has brought a ray of hope in areas that were previously neglected by the government like the Luo Nyanza. It will no longer be a Kikuyu-Kalenjin Development Agenda but an agenda for Kenya as a whole.
