Former EACC employees fined after being found guilty of bribery

Two former Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission employees have been found guilty of soliciting a bribe and fined a total of Sh800,000.

Magistrate Felix Kombo ordered the two to pay the Sh800,000 fine or face a one-year jail term.

Felix Mutinda and Fredrick Omaya are said to have solicited a bribe of Sh 180,000 from Judith Kashem as an inducement to ensure her company is not disqualified from the list of pre-qualified suppliers for the EACC.

On the second count, Mutinda is said to have received Sh50,000 as inducement not to cancel an LPO for the supply of cameras to the EACC.

Omanya faced a charge of receiving a Sh28,000 bribe.

The magistrate directed Mutinda to pay Sh500,000 the for two counts whereas Omanya was fined Sh300,000.

This follows news of eleven suspects in the Sh 468 million NYS case have being discharged.

The suspects who include Sammy Michuki, the former Deputy Director General and Rogers Nzioka, a senior accountant at NYS among others, are free men following an application by the Director of Public.

Trial magistrate Peter Ooko discharged the accused persons after the chief prosecutor told the court that he does not intend to proceed with their indictment. No other reason was given.
