Damning Revelation! Luos are the most tribal Community

For a very long time, we have been made to believe that the Kikuyu community is the most tribal in Kenya. But how wrong were we. A report by the Auditor General Edward Ouko has exposed Luos as the most tribal community. Interestingly, they are followed by the Kisiis.

The Auditor general revealed the five most tribal counties in Kenya and both of them come from Nyanza Province.A report by Auditor General Edward Ouko has exposed the five most tribal counties across the country.

In a report dubbed Ethnic and Diversity Audit of the County Public Service that seeks to address ethnic imbalance in staffing, the AG singled out Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii and Nyamira counties for failing to deal with the issue.

Ouko noted that more than 90 per cent of the local staff in the counties was from the local dominant community.

This is a breach of the legal requirement which prohibits the local community from taking more than 30 per cent of the jobs in their county.

For instance, in Kisumu County 97 per cent of the employees are from the dominant local community while Homa Bay’s staff has a 95 per cent majority from the local dominant tribe.

Noting that the situation had worsened in the past five years, the AG stated, “No public establishment shall have more than one-third of its staff from the same ethnic community,” Ouko stated.

“Consequently, the county recruitment procedures of the County Government Act have not been adhered to.”

Ouko further outlined disparities in Kisii county’s 3,611 employees base where 91% are members of one tribe, and Nyamira at 94.

“The findings of this report allude to the fact that employment in the counties is not only inequitable but skewed towards the dominant groups in the county.

“The County governments are not complying with the provisions on inclusivity and promotion of regional and ethnic diversity in Kenya,” the Auditor General concluded.
