Europe’s top 7 goalscorers 2018/2019 season so far

Lionel Messi has extended his lead among Europe’s top goalscorers, while Cristiano Ronaldo climbed into joint-second position and two Africans are among the top 10.

The Argentine netted the first goal in his side’s 2-1 win over Getafe on Sunday evening to take his tally to 16 goals for the 2018/19 campaign.

As a consequence, Messi opened up a two-goal gap to the three players, who currently share the second position – namely: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Harry Kane and Ronaldo.

#1 Lionel Messi | Barcelona | 16 goals (32)
The Ronaldo-Messi rivalry came to an end over the summer, but the Barcelona superstar could reclaim the honour of top-scorer in Spain this season following the Portuguese international’s departure to Juventus.

#2 Cristiano Ronaldo | Juventus | 14 goals (28)
The former Madrid star took his time getting rolling in Serie A but has moved up to lead the scoring charts. His first strike against Sampdoria in December made him the highest-scoring Portuguese player in the Italian top-flight since Rui Barros.

#3 Harry Kane | Tottenham | 14 goals (28)
A habitual contender for the Premier League’s Golden Boot award, Kane has made another strong start to the season and looks set to challenge again for the top scorer award in 2018-19.

#4 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang | Arsenal | 14 goals (28)
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been in fine goalscoring form, helping Unai Emery make an encouraging start to life as Arsene Wenger’s successor at Arsenal.

#5 Kylian Mbappe | PSG | 13 goals (26)
The World Cup winner with France started the Ligue 1 in typical stellar form, and made history as he scored four goals in 13 minutes against Lyon in a 5-0 victory in early October.

#6 Krzysztof Piatek | Genoa | 13 goals (26)
Piatek is Italy’s unlikely leading goalscorer so far following his scintillating form for Genoa, becoming the first player since Gabriel Batistuta to score in each of the first seven games of a Serie A season.

#7 Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | 13 goals (26)
Last season’s Premier League Gold Boot winner is looking to enjoy another productive campaign in the final third.

The Egypt international scored his first hat-trick of the campaign in a 4-0 rout over Bournemouth in early December.

Do you think Messi can beat Ronaldo and the rest to this season’s Golden Boot?
