Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to ‘decide future of Man Utd stars – with big names in firing line’

Manchester United will reportedly ask Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for help in deciding the futures of their top stars.

Solskjaer has already said he will have an input on any United signings in this month’s transfer window.

United are in the market for a central defender, with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld among their targets January.

Caretaker United boss Solskjaer, in charge until the end of the season, said he will be fully involved in any incomings, despite Mauricio Pochettino hotly-tipped to take over in the summer.

But now The Sun claim the former Reds Devils’ striker will decide the futures of current stars nearing the end of their contracts too.

Both Juan Mata and Ander Herrera are free agents in the summer – and can open talks with European clubs now.

Defenders Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia are also seeing their deals run down, as is midfielder Andreas Pereira, 19.

He has been interesting Valencia, who had him on loan last season.

Ashley Young is also nearing the end of his deal.

And the club also want Solskjaer to help keep David De Gea at the club long-term.

United took up their option of a new one year deal for the Spaniard earlier in the season, but they want their prized asset to stay longer.

And they hope Solskjaer’s relationship with the keeper will help convince him to stay as they ask him to lead the ‘charm offensive’.

Last week Solskjaer said of the transfer policy: “The club’s probably had a plan. You don’t just plan the next day and next month, but this transfer window has probably been planned since the summer and year before, the next transfer window.

“The structure is phenomenal, I’m sure they’ve got their targets, I’m here to voice my opinion on that, and I’m sure we’ll sit down, me and Ed if we’ve got anything in the pipeline.

“I’m here to work with the ones I’ve got. They’ve all performed and as long as they perform they should get a chance but that’s my job to improve players and individuals.”
