Ole Gunnar Solskjaer BLOCKS Red Devils’ Transfer Plan

The Norwegian – in temporary charge since Jose Mourinho’s sacking last month – has reportedly been told he is not allowed to make any permanent signings this month, per the Mirror.

And as a result of that, and his desire to integrate United’s most promising youngsters into the first-team set-up, Solskjaer has called off several planned loans.

Solskjaer coached United’s youth teams before his first major managerial role and has consistently spoken about his plans to promote the club’s rising stars.

The sources  say that Gomes was one of a number of under-23s players who were expected to be sent out on loan in January for regular game-time at a senior level.

The attacking play-maker – who made his debut at just 16 years and 263 days old two seasons ago – is one of the Red Devils’ hottest prospects and starred for England in their under-17 World Cup win two years ago.

But despite his talent, he has made just two appearances over the last two campaigns, both times as a late substitute.

One of those came under Solskjaer on Boxing Day in a 3-1 win over Huddersfield, while Andreas Pereira appeared against Bournemouth and Tahith Chong travelled with the squad to Newcastle albeit without making the 18-man matchday squad.

Mason Greenwood and James Garner are among the others who will hope to make their debuts under Solskjaer, with RoShaun Williams and DJ Buffonge also training with the first-team squad as of late.

The manager could opt to include a number of them in the squad to face Reading at Old Trafford on Saturday (12.30pm) in the third round of the FA Cup.

Despite blocking deals for several players, the MEN say that a number of deals are still expected to be sanctioned with Regan Poole among the candidates to be handed a temporary spell away from the club.

In line with reports from the Mirror that Solskjaer will not be active in January, the MEN suggest that United can be expected to be quiet in terms of their incomings.

Discussing the club’s plans, the former striker said: “The club’s probably had a plan. You don’t just plan the next day and next month, I’m sure they’ve got plans.

“But this transfer window has probably been planned since the summer and the year before.

“The structure is phenomenal, so I’m sure they’ve got their targets, I’m here to voice my opinion on that and I’m sure we’ll sit down, me and Ed, if they’ve got anything in the pipeline.

“I’m here to work with the ones I’ve got, they’ve all performed and as long as they perform they should get a chance but that’s my job to improve players and individuals.”
