‘He’s The Weak Link At Liverpool… That Was Proven Against Manchester City’

The 2-1 loss to title rivals Manchester City cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League to four points on Thursday night.

Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane got the goals but Babb believes their lives were made easier by Dejan Lovren.

“To say that Aguero specifically targeted him, I am not so sure.

“But, if you look across that back line, you would probably say the weakest link is Dejan Lovren – and that proved to be [the case], pretty much last night.

“He had a sketchy game at best. Some of his distribution was poor, [the] decision making.

“Even towards the end, when Liverpool were pushing forwards and (Virgil) Van Dijk was up, he (Lovren) was playing straight balls into the box – and you would probably say you need to angle them, so there is a better chance for the second ball and the knock down.

“But what do you say about Sergio Aguero? He is genuinely a world-class striker and a great asset for City.”

Boss Jurgen Klopp insisted after the match he would have paid good money to be four points clear having played City twice already in the season.

While Andy Robertson said nothing had altered the players’ perspective.

“It doesn’t change anything. It is just the same if we had won,” said the Scotland captain.

“It would have been nice to be 10 points clear of them and nine points above Tottenham but we wouldn’t have won it (the title).

“We have not lost it. They’re obviously delighted (seeing) their reaction at the end but they’ve not won it either.

“We will fight right to the death. They’ve closed the gap but it is all about how we react.

“It is a new experience for all of us. We can use that to our advantage and we’ll look forward to the games ahead now.”
