Hodgson Explains Why Palace Pulled Out Of Solanke Deal

It looked like Dom Solanke was set for a six month loan spell at Crystal Palace, but the Eagles have pulled out of a deal despite our young forward passing a medical.

According to Hodgson, there were ‘complications’ with the transfer, with BBC Sport now suggesting Brighton, Huddersfield and sides from Germany were interested.

Liverpool always demand certain sticking points when sending players on loan, such as a guarantee of minutes or face a financial penalty, so perhaps this was an issue – along with Solanke’s muscular problems he’s struggled with this term.

At this point, it would probably be smart for us to keep Solanke until at least after our FA Cup game with Wolves, in which Jurgen Klopp is almost certain to field an entirely rotated XI.

If we defeat Wolves, there’ll be an FA Cup 4th Round fixture towards the end of January – so it might make sense to keep Solanke for this month and allow him a temporary exit just before deadline day.
