Liverpool take on Manchester City at the Etihad tonight looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League. The Reds are six points clear of City and remain unbeaten domestically since the start of the season. Manager Jurgen Klopp has a tough time selecting his squad for tonight’s match following the impressive 5-1 hammering of Arsenal last time out.

Liverpool adopted an adventurous 4-2-3-1 formation for the win over the Gunners but a more conservative 4-3-3 shape will surely see some players miss out.

The return to fitness of James Milner after a hamstring injury has also caused a further headache for Klopp, with the Reds spoilt for choice in midfield.

Georginio Wijnaldum seems certain to start, having been called upon in most important occasions so far this campaign.

Fabinho also looks likely to feature after recent impressive performances, meaning Xherdan Shaqiri is most likely to drop out if another central midfielder is selected.

Milner is in competition with Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson for the final midfield role, while the front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will remain unchanged.

However, the shift in formation is expected to see Firmino more advanced than his role at the weekend while Salah should switch from a central position to the right wing.

In defence, Joe Gomez remains sidelined so Dejan Lovren will continue alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Andrew Robertson will start at left-back while Trent Alexander-Arnold should get the nod on the opposite flank.

Milner is also a potential deputy at right-back if Klopp rests Alexander-Arnold, with the 20-year-old having only recently returned from injury.
