TSC says why transfer of school heads will not be reversed

Image result for Kihumba KamothoThe Teachers Service Commission has said that it has successfully concluded in the  transfers of 3094 headteachers and principals in time for opening of new school term.

The commission has further stated that the proposal by some parties on the possibility of the revocation end/or suspension of of the transfer has unfortunately , caused confusion and anxiety among teachers , head of institutions and stakeholders .

TSC has however said that the reversal of the transfer of school heads is likely to affect the productivity and performance of the 3094 headteachers and principals.

This comes after the Kenya National Union of Teachers defied the court and declared that the strike by its members will begin today ahead of the opening of schools tomorrow.

Parents have opposed Knut’s strike notice and promised to challenge it in court.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is alleged to have failed to show up for a meeting meant intended to avert a strike by a section of its workers yesterday.

The failure by TSC to appear for the mediation called by Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani baffled arbitrators, prompting the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) to accuse the employer of acting in bad faith.

Knut also said the strike would go on despite a court order suspending it issued on Monday.

“The employer has been playing tricks and trying to paint the union in bad light and suggesting that we are the ones who are not willing to engage in talks yet they are the ones avoiding talks,” Knut secretary-general Wilson Sossion said after the talks aborted due to TSC’s absence.

TSC however said it was not aware of the meeting.

TSC has clarified on the matter saying that in view of the foregoing , the commission would like to advice that all the heads of institutions who are either deployed or transferred have handed over and /or taken over as appropriate.

They have also signed the necessary documentation including resource accountability instruments .

In this regard , they will be available in their new stations to receive learners on 3rd January 2019 for the commencement of first term learning programs
