Engagement party turned chaotic after police officers arrested a middle-aged man who is accused of failing to pay a Ksh.76, 000 bill he incurred during the Christmas holiday at a hotel in Voi, Taita Taveta County.
The man is said to have checked in at Vacani Resort situated along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway together with his lover on December 25.
The couple then went ahead to have a good time at the hotel, with the man even hosting an engagement party on Boxing Day where he proposed to the woman.
The hotel management, however, got concerned after it hit the third day and the man had not paid a single shilling despite him still enjoying the hotel services.
According to Voi OCPD Joshua Chesire, when the man was asked to offset the bill he insisted that he was the Chief Executive Officer of a private company, but did not pay up.
The man had not indicated when he was to check out of the hotel.
This prompted the management to report the matter to the police leading to the man’s arrest on Saturday evening. His girlfriend was not apprehended.
The suspect was detained at Voi Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
