LIVERPOOL and Arsenal players appeared to clash in the Anfield tunnel as the players left the pitch after a dominant first half for the hosts.

The Reds took in a 4-1 lead at half-time thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah cancelled out Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ opener.

But the action packed first 45 minutes was made even more dramatic after what appeared to be a bust-up broke out as the players left the pitch.

Pictures show the altercation mainly appears to be between Gunners defender Sokratis and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

The two players had to be separated by team-mates as they gathered around the tunnel, heading towards the changing rooms.

It is thought the clash stems from Mohamed Salah’s penalty, with Sokratis unhappy with Egypt international Salah for going down too easily in the box.

The Greek continued to shout at Salah, despite the goalscoring ace ignoring him, prompting Van Dijk to rush to his team-mate’s rescue.

Star centre-back Van Dijk immediately squared up to the Arsenal man.

And the two were seen exchanging several words as Van Dijk fought Salah’s case.

But the situation was quickly diffused as the players were ushered down the tunnel.

And Liverpool legend and BT Sport pundit Michael Owen believed the Dutchman had “rescued his team-mate”.

A win for Liverpool today would extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points, after Tottenham lost 3-1 to Wolves.

Arsenal, meanwhile, stay two points off the top four, with Chelsea to play tomorrow.
