The matatu crackdown is definitely turning out to be among the greatest achievements of the aim to curb rogue matatus and even reduce road accidents.

In the past years, you can bear witness that the rate of accidents that were happening in our country especially between the festive season was just over the bar.

The country has a little bit taken a back seat and watch move things properly unlike previous years. The menace of hiking fares, careless driving and accidents have been reduced to almost zero. Kudos to that .

At least 72 Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) were on Friday impounded in Mombasa by a multi-agency road safety team drawn from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and Kenya police.

During the crackdown, only 17 vehicles were found to be compliant and which were later released.

According to Mombasa County Police Commander Johnson Ipara, of the non-compliant vehicles, 10 were not fitted with speed governors, 25 had various major defects while 20 were found with various minor defects.

The officer called on Saccos to ensure their vehicles are compliant and issued a stern warning against operators hiking fares.

Drivers in the area however, complained of continuous harassment from the police despite having met all the requirements.
