When Tottenham travelled to Molineux in early November, Wolves put up an almighty fight and were narrowly beaten 3-2 despite their furious comeback.
Yet Spurs have no need to fear Wolves when the two sides meet this afternoon, due to the disappointing nature of Wolves’ Boxing Day performance.
The newly-promoted side visited Fulham and emerged from Craven Cottage with an underwhelming 1-1 draw. The Whites entered the match bottom of the league with just two victories all season and the division’s worst defensive record.
Despite Fulham’s dire predicament, the Whites were the better side for much of Wednesday’s match, pinning Wolves back for the first half and bullying their backline with the strong play of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Aboubakar Kamara.
Although the Midlands club equalised after going behind in the second half, the festive display revealed the lack of cutting edge currently evident in the Wolves squad.
Scoring just a solitary strike against a defence that has shipped 42 goals to date is a worrying sign, and Tottenham should feel far from threatened when they welcome Wolves to Wembley.
Mauricio Pochettino will undoubtedly ensure his players maintain their high level of intensity amid their recent good form, but even the Argentine manager will acknowledge Wolves’ Boxing Day performance shows they pose little threat to Spurs.
