Kiambu ex-governor William Kabogo lashes out at Murathe over Ruto's 2022 presidential bid

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has dismissed Jubilee vice-chairman David Murathe’s sentiments that Deputy President William Ruto should retire together with President Uhuru Kenyatta and forget about 2022 presidency.

While addressing the public on Wednesday, December 26, in Vihiga during the 39th Maragoli cultural celebrations, Murathe disowned the power deal between Uhuru and Ruto saying the DP had done his term with the president and should go home.

In a Twitter post, Kabogo hit back at Murathe saying he was out on a political brokerage mission given his past record where he allegedly sold his parliamentary seat to SK Macharia, the Royal Media Services owner. “Murathe has no authority to speak on anyone’s behalf. Who is he to ask DP Ruto to retire from politics in 2022? We’ve not forgotten he sold his parliamentary seat to SK Macharia. He’s politically broke,” claimed Kabogo.

According to Murathe, the deputy president had served his term alongside Uhuru and there was no way the Kikuyu community was going to support him. The Jubilee politician said the party had no presidential candidate for 2022 while noting there was no political debt as Uhuru and Ruto had shared the government equally.

“If you (Ruto) have led with Uhuru for two terms, what else do you want? We don’t know someone who will guard us but we know someone who will break us. We will take someone who will safeguard Mt Kenya,” said Murathe. His statement may mark a climax of a possible rift in the leading party that has often been in a series of internal wrangles since the famous handshake between Uhuru and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
